
ABOUT the FESTIVAL
BOFA Film Festival began in Launceston in 2010 with a mantra of “using film to inspire positive change” and has built a reputation as Tasmania’s international Film Festival annually offering a carefully curated lineup of films from around the world.
BOFA Ltd is a not-for-profit Company Limited by Guarantee with not-for-profit tax status. BOFA is a volunteer-run event with a strong Board of directors including: Monica Plunkett, Senior Strategist/Creative, S Group; Karlin Love, composer and performer; Jayne Montague, filmmaker, MakeitinTasmania; Helen Tilbury, Program Director; Dominic Geraghty, UTAS Pro-Vice Chancellor (Launceston); Andrew Farquhar, Chief Operating Officer, Tasmanian Essential Services; Oliver Oxley, Venue Manager, Du Cane Brewery and Dining Hall; and Owen Tilbury, Festival Director. Advertising Agency (and BOFA sponsor), Inclusive Creatives provides branding, marketing and promotional support.
This year we’re starting by offering free online film content throughout the year and by partnering in the presentation of a Tibetan Film Festival on Saturday 29th April.
BOFA 2023 will continue as a place-based festival in Launceston (Friday 1st - Sunday 3rd, September) showing feature films from around the world at Village Cinemas, in out-of-the-ordinary cinemas including the heritage Majestic Theatre and the Annexe Theatre, in historic houses and in restaurants featuring the region’s amazing cuisine that has earned Launceston the UNESCO title of a Creative City of Gastronomy.
