Sun, sex and sumptuousness rule in Terence Davies’ (The Deep Blue Sea, the House of Mirth) adaptation of Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s novel, spanning six years in the life of a girl named Chris, one of the numerous children of a tyrannical Scottish farmer on the eve of the First World War.
