Ivan Sen’s Mystery Road was one of the hits of BOFA 2013, and the sequel is, according to David Stratton, “more satisfying than the original”. Aboriginal detective Jay Swan, returns to the screen (an incredible lead performance by Aaron Pedersen), sent to the rural mining town of Goldstone in search of a missing Asian woman, where he is again forced to confront the institutionalised racism and corruption of a small town and its adjacent mine. An all star Aussie cast includes David Wenham, Jacki Weaver and David Gulpilil. The tense shootout climax of the film is one of the great action set pieces of Australian cinema.
