Ants on a Shrimp tracks René Redzepi, founder and head chef of Copenhagen’s famed Noma eatery (and recently in Australia), as he and his stellar band
of chefs create a world-class pop-up restaurant in a Tokyo hotel. The team
has just a month to prepare for their sold-out, five-week engagement, so
it’s “all for one and one for all” as they painstakingly plan, test and perfect a spectacular 14-course menu, relying on unique local ingredients and an infusion of Japanese spirit. To that end, team Redzepi tours the country to gather an innate understanding of the plants, fish, vegetables and more that they’ll be using in their dazzling dishes. And yes, there are (live) ants on a shrimp, along with scallop fudge and deep fried fish sperm.

Sake has a long, deep history in Japanese culture, but despite the popularity of Japanese cuisine,
it is still not well known outside
Japan. Kampai! For the Love of Sake journeys from rice paddies in Japan
to breweries around the globe as it chronicles three passionate exponents of the increasingly popular beverage: a British ex-pat who has become Japan’s first foreign master brewer,
an American journalist known as the “Sake Evangelist,” and a fifth-generation Japanese brewer determined to shake up the industry. Together, their stories form a fascinating snapshot of the rich, complex, spectacular and secretive world of sake.
