Cup and 2016 Olympics looming, the residents of Rio slum district Rocinha are subjected to a tidal wave of systematic oppression under the government “pacification” program. Rampant police abuse culminates in the disappearance of local bricklayer Amarildo de Souza, but together the residents start a protest movement that will shake the Brazilian establishment to the core. A fascinating insight into a community that is as vibrant and inspiring as it is violent and barbaric, and ultimately a celebration of the amazing fortitude and resilience of the human spirit.
