A boldly original female-centric drama.
-The Hollywood Reporter
This delightfully intimate portrait of two lovers is a standout for its tender respect, objectivity and high degree of realism. The difference is that Nina (Barbara Sukowa) and Mado (Martine Chevallier) are late middle-aged women, who are each part of conventional, established, slightly conservative families. Their love affair has been a passionately rewarding secret for years, but practical events conspire to derail their velvet secret. The film, lightly directed by Filippo Meneghetti, captures a much wider horizon than the love tangle plotline might suggest. It poses questions about family love and responsibility, the propensity for grown up children to question the rights and wisdom of their parents, and the capability of individuals to rebel in a small way – with major results. This is a drama and a love story, but most of all a poke at what many of us forget to see as ‘imposed standard’ behaviours of our society. Unusually thought provoking and involving.
