The most heartwarming spy movie ever made.

-IndieWire

What do you do if you fear your mother is being mistreated in a nursing home? Why, you send for The Mole Agent, of course. This documentary-drama combines reality with a fair slice of licence as director Maite Alberdi tells the residents of a care home in Chile that she is making a documentary. But a mole, in the form of eighty-three year-old Sergio, has been infiltrated to help check and report on any suspected abuse. Using an engagingly jolly cinematic style, along with a classic spy movie soundtrack from Vincent van Warmerdam, you forget this delight is a doco, and just enjoy the plot. Sergio flirts with the old ladies, his handler introduces him to the shady side of WhatsApp and he becomes a human spy drone with his covert camera pen and video-equipped spectacles. Like the Bond Girls, the ladies swoon over Sergio as he goes about his surveillance, but the result is not a dramatic car chase or shootout – rather a sad, often amusing, insight into what the residents really fear.
