A boys’ adventure with an environmental focus.

-FilmDude

This film has a lot of “aaaah” moments. First, there is the plot: disconnected and disenchanted son of divorced parents is forced to visit eccentric dad in the boondocks with no phone connectivity, but eventually realises he loves him and his dedication. Then there’s the filming; some astonishingly lush and intimate nature shooting, both earthbound and sky bound, of animals and landscapes. Then there’s the characters. Both dad Christian (Jean-Paul Rouve) and his son Thomas (Louis Vazquez) shine believably as they stumble increasingly closer together on a journey to rescue a brood of migratory geese. They have to imprint a migration track into the young birds on less dangerous paths away from human-implemented dangers.  They decide to do this by flying a motorised hang glider from Scandinavia to the South of France with the geese following. If that sounds a bit fanciful – it’s not. The film is based on the true story of ornithologist Christian Moullec who, for decades, has been training birds to fly home across continents. Aaaah indeed. Your kids will love it as well, especially if they have a little French up their sleeve.
