Let’s make music. It’s about respect.
This highly awarded film is about hope, about the transformative power of music, and about the courage of young people who want to make a real difference.
World-famous conductor Eduard Sporck (Peter Simonischek) has bravely taken on the role of creative director and conductor of a new Israeli-Palestinian youth orchestra, and he faces many challenges. Based on a real-life musical bridge-building effort by Daniel Barenboim’s West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, the plot of Crescendo won’t terrify you with obscure twists and turns, but it will seduce you with gorgeous imagery, real-world problems and their sometimes difficult solutions and sad outcomes – as well as the wonderful music. The film exposes a multitude of racial, religious, political, ego-driven and romantic layers that can drive young people apart, but brings a glimmer of hope to its conclusion. Even if the orchestra only lasts three weeks before the final concert, will the musical and human respect continue? Come and see how it plays out …
